The Fishing

Fish some of the best trout waters in Colorado with access to the Gunnison, Taylor, and East Rivers. The Gunnison River is renowned for its large rainbow and brown trout, ideal for float and wade fishing. The Taylor River offers trophy-sized trout in crystal-clear tailwater, while the East River is a haven for dry fly fishing, surrounded by scenic valleys and healthy wild trout populations. These rivers together create a world-class fishing destination for those looking for both challenge and reward.

November 2nd: Depart after breakfast.

Where: Seadrift, Texas

Species: red fish, black drum, sheepshead, and speckled trout. October and November are the only real times you can target speckled trout on the fly.

Getting There: Fly into San Antonio (about 2.5 hour flight). Then you have to rent a car or van to get to BFL (about a 3 hour drive). With the hosted trip route it is more cost effective to rent a van. Plus it is a lot of fun to drive and travel with everyone!

Lodging: When you go on a hosted trip you stay in a private house across the street from the main lodge. Think of it as a giant air bnb - giant living room, kitchen, table, and place to all hang out at. We played a lot of card games and gambling (yikes). Very comfortable rooms and 2 anglers can have their own room.

Number of Guest: 7 anglers

Price: $2,636 per person.

Includes: 3 days of guided fishing, all meals, non-alcoholic beverages, lodging, gear and tackle (more below on this).
Does not include: Alcohol (pick up on the way in rental van), gratuity, airfare, shuttle to and from lodge
Added expenses to rate: Gratuity - lodge and guides ($95 - $120 per day), TX fishing license (~$46 per person - need to double check for 2026), rental car - van was ~$100 per person, flights, and booze.

Sage Experience Lodge - You do not have to bring any gear. Every boat is equipped with R8 Salts, Arbor XL's, and appropriate Rio line. All flies, leaders, and tippet is provided. All you have to bring is yourself.

Why Bay Flats Lodge?

Intro to saltwater - price and honest fish. Red fish are not as easy as people say - you have to still get the fly to the fish but it is much easier than bones, permit, tarpon.
Very easy logistics - no passport required, quick flight away.
Price - this price is outrageously good. If you were to book directly with guides you are spending more than the rack rate and wouldn't include lodging.
October/November are prime dates for bigger reds and the only time to really target speckled trout on the fly.
Sage Experience Lodge - no gear needed. Just show up
Pristine Lodge - it is the cleanest and nicest lodge I have stayed at. It feels incredibly nice and comfortable.
Dining and Experience - phenomenal food and incredible customer service.
Guides - some of the best guides I have fished with. Good mix of some guides that are very direct and some that are very laid back. Can pair with any personality type.
